It's been 11 years since Final Fantasy VII came out and the following statement will still offend millions of
fanboy-dicklickers: It is NOT the best game in the series. That is the truth, sirs. And it's not because
of the self-pitying protagonist, the bare-bones battle system, or dead-in-the-water story that I am making this statement.
Nope, rather it's the constant barrage of blind followers that I've been dealing with since 1997. These assholes think that
this is the best game not only in the series, but one of the best games ever made. Just play VI and shut up (in that
order). Let's discuss what VII did do for the FF series. It launched it into the mainstream. It made RPGs seem cool
to douche nuggets that were playing paintball in high school.

That whole mainstream launchification has completely led to the ruin of the RPG in recent years. Just look at shit like
Mass Effect. RPG? Are you fucking kidding me? In what sense? Maybe in the most base definition of the word "role." Now real
RPGs are called "turn-based RPGs" and they're being teased as relics of the past. Well, fuck you. RPG used to mean
turn-based. If you can't deal with big-eyed characters saving some elemental objects from some crazy asshole, then go play
Madden, you dick.
